Indoor concrete, different rules

Basements and interior spaces are not garages.

An indoor concrete floor isn’t pressure-washed, parked on, or exposed to UV. What it deals with is different – and the system we install for it is tuned to those conditions.

Common interior concerns we address:

  • Moisture from below – basement slabs without proper vapor barriers can push moisture up through the slab and undermine the coating. We test and treat moisture before laying anything down.
  • Pet traffic and accidents – claws, water bowls, occasional accidents. The seamless surface cleans easier than tile grout or wood seams ever will.
  • Comfort underfoot – some homeowners want a warmer-feeling surface vs raw cold concrete. Adding insulation or topcoat texture changes the feel.
  • Low odor / low VOC – we use low-VOC systems for interior application so the space is back to normal within 24-48 hours.
  • Looks like part of the house – decorative finishes that integrate with interior design instead of reading as "garage stuff brought indoors".

The system underneath is the same polyaspartic chemistry we use everywhere. What changes is the spec – moisture-mitigating primer, decorative finish choices appropriate to interior design, low-VOC topcoat for indoor air quality.

Indoor spaces we coat

Where it fits in the house.

Finished basements

Family rooms, home theaters, guest suites. Moisture-tolerant polyaspartic with decorative finish – reads as designed flooring, not utility coating.

Mudrooms & entries

The hardest-working floor in the house. Seamless surface handles dirt, water, snow boots in winter. Cleans with a damp mop.

Laundry rooms

Detergent spills, water leaks, hot-cold cycles. Chemical-resistant topcoat shrugs off the abuse. No grout to discolor.

The standard behind every Grand Rapids floor

Diamond-ground prep

Every Grand Rapids slab is mechanically diamond-ground, not acid-etched, so the coating actually bonds and stays down.

Most garages in a day

A standard garage is prepped, coated, and topcoated in one day. Back to parking without a week of downtime.

Bonded and insured

Fully bonded with liability coverage. Ask for the certificate before any crew starts.

The Coat Pro Standard

A written commitment on adhesion and finish. If a covered issue shows up, we come back and make it right.

Indoor FAQs

Common interior questions.

Yes, when the slab is properly evaluated and prepped. We test slab moisture at the walkthrough using a calcium chloride test or moisture meter. If readings are elevated, we include a moisture-mitigating primer that creates a vapor barrier between the slab and the coating. The price for that is in the quote upfront.
Yes. We use low-VOC polyaspartic systems for interior installs. Fully cured polyaspartic is inert – no off-gassing, no leaching. You can be back in the space within 24-48 hours of install, and pets/kids are safe on the floor as soon as it’s cured.
Polished concrete is the slab itself, mechanically polished to a finish. It’s beautiful but porous – stains can penetrate, sealing is ongoing maintenance. Our system is a coating – 22-30 mils of polyaspartic over the slab – so stains can’t penetrate, cleaning is simpler, and finish options are wider.
Yes. We protect adjacent walls and trim with masking, and use HEPA-vac equipment to contain dust during grinding. Most interior installs happen with the room otherwise finished. Just plan to move furniture out for the install days.
Concrete is concrete – the coating doesn’t significantly change thermal feel. If you want warmth underfoot, this is best paired with radiant floor heating (we coat over radiant systems without issue) or area rugs in living spaces. The coating itself is comfortable to walk on but doesn’t insulate.
Interior floors in Grand Rapids

Basement and interior floors for Grand Rapids homes.

West Michigan throws everything at a concrete floor: lake-effect snow, relentless freeze-thaw, and heavy road salt for much of the year. Bare and painted slabs pit, spall, and stain fast under that load. Around Grand Rapids, the only finishes worth installing are the ones engineered to shrug off salt and survive a genuinely hard winter. Homes here lean on their garages and basements through long winters, so a sealed, salt-proof slab earns its keep from the first snow to the last thaw.

Interior and basement slabs in Grand Rapids fight harsh lake-effect winters, severe freeze-thaw, and heavy road salt and moisture from below. Our seamless, pet-safe coatings seal out moisture, wipe clean with no grout lines, and brighten West Michigan basements, laundry rooms, and living spaces.

We install basement interior across Grand Rapids and West Michigan — Rockford, Walker, Wayland, Wyoming, Kentwood, Grandville, East Grand Rapids, and Cedar Springs — and in neighborhoods like Downtown Rockford, Rockford Highlands, Cedar Creek Crossing South, Saddle Ridge, Rogue River View Estates, Algoma Estates, Belmont, and Cannon Township. Every Grand Rapids job is prepped and spec’d for harsh lake-effect winters, severe freeze-thaw, and heavy road salt, not a recipe copied from another region.

Does Grand Rapids humidity or moisture affect basement floor coatings?

We moisture-test and prep every Grand Rapids basement slab, then use moisture-tolerant systems — essential given harsh lake-effect winters, severe freeze-thaw, and heavy road salt — so the floor bonds and won’t blister.

Can you coat a Grand Rapids basement that sometimes gets damp?

Yes — we manage slab moisture during prep, which matters in Grand Rapids, so the seamless finish holds up in basements and interior spaces.
